Valve Release A SteamDeck Refresh
;11-16-2023
I have been using Valve SteamDeck for about 15 months now. And I just love using the device. I only play FFXIV, OSRS(Old School RuneScape), and sometimes DOOM2. But before you go on Steam and Purchase the damn thing! Don’t buy the old LCD VERSION buy the new one! The OLED Version!
That’s Right!! Valve just released a new Refresh of their Linux Handheld. Don’t worry if you don’t have the money or still have the original. It still looks the same and performs the same with better battery life and a new screen. Although it is not a SteamDeck2. The number 2 won’t be out until the next 2-3 years maybe 2025 or 2026?.
From what I have seen so far, the battery life is better than the LCD version. It ranges around 2 1/2 hours or so if you play the big AAA games. Performance wise thanks to 6400 MHz speed on the ram games can be Stable at 30-40 FPS locked. I can’t wait to see if any content creator will test FFXIV on the OLED Version. Like I said again it is up to you if you want to buy it or not. If you already have one just wait for the next-gen SteamDeck. The LCD version is really cheap compared to the OLED versions. But the OLED takes the cake for Top Notch Handheld PC.

Pros “What I really like about My 256GB LCD Q3 2022 SteamDeck”
- Excellent controls
- Extra buttons from two Track pads and 4 extra buttons from the back
- Track pads are well built
- Gyro tech is interesting
- Built in Fraps/FPS Monitoring software
- SteamOS feels more organize more than Microsoft
- 40hz is soo good on FFXIV!!!
Cons “What I don’t really like”
- Touch Screen acts like its between a mouse and a touch screen? I kind of wish it was a bit better
- There might be some games that are not Compatible but you might need to wait or just try which game that works.
- KDE Desktop software center “Discover” is quite limited but you still get the usual apps that you are already been using like OBS or Discord.
- Can’t Change your Windows Manager but you may edit some lines to change your window manager lets say to i3wm. But maybe in the future Valve may speak to all the Window manager Developers into incorporating it to there software
